Late Kumkum Rawat

(These poems are precious parting notes of the poet after her “Eternal departure”. They are organized by her husband Mr. Yogesh Rawat and finalized in the present form by her friend Dr. Beena Agarwal.)

Fly-Fly! Get Away

The fly asks its mother
In tone, calm and somber
“Why did you call me ‘Fly’
The name gives me enough reason to cry.”

“I could get no rest, no home
Throughout the day
I wander and roam.”

“I have to gather my own food
from places dirty and crude.”

“Variety of food are seen at the shop
They don’t allow me,
I fly and hop.”

“I want to eat Mac D’s burger
If you have some money  to offer.”

“We are weak and small
born with sorry fate
Destined to bear rejection
And hate.”

“We can’t cook food and make houses
For us, life is not bed of roses.”

“It’s not the name
that brings misfortune
It’s the system that
does not go with
weak and down trodden.”
